Twin birthday cards

I made these twin birthday cards for my twin sisters-in-law.  I was inspired by the Mixability challenges on SCS.  These are mixed media challenges.  While that sounds intimidating, the challenges seem pretty straightforward so far.  The challenge a couple of weeks ago was to create a card using emboss resist.  I can do that!
The cardbases I used are Wisteria Wonder and Pool Party.  The doily stamp was stamped with white craft ink and heat embossed with white EP.  I sponged Rich Razzleberry and Island Indigo onto the center of each doily respectively.  After the ink had a chance to dry a bit, I wiped off the images with a paper towel to remove excess ink from the embossed areas.
I added ribbon to each card, punching a slot with the retired slot punch.  The sentiments are from Itty Bitty Banners and cut out with the Bitty Banners framelits.  They are tied to the bow with some bakers twine (Wisteria Wonder and Pool Party).

The feminine side

Here's the feminine version of Wednesday's card. I used the emboss resist technique here. I stamped Medallion using VersaMark ink onto the Paisley Petals DSP. Next, I sprinkled on clear EP and heated it. Finally, I brayered Early Espresso ink over the whole thing. After it dried a little, I rubbed the embossed image with a paper towel to get off the excess ink and then put it through the Big Shot.
I stamped Teahouse in Cajun Craze ink onto a Crumb Cake cardbase and added Crumb Cake seam binding ribbon. A pearl in the center of the medallion is the finishing touch.

Emboss resist medallion

Today's card uses the emboss resist technique with the Medallion background stamp. This is very similar to the card I made last week with the Medallion stamp. In fact, I stamped and embossed both pieces at the same time!
First I stamped the medallion onto glossy cardstock with VersaMark ink. Next, I poured on clear EP and heat embossed. I sponged the center of the medallion with Marina Mist ink and the next section with Pacific Point ink. The rest of the cardstock was sponged with Cherry Cobbler. Then I set it aside to dry. After the ink was dry, I spritzed a paper towel with Stampin' Mist and used that to remove the excess ink from the embossed area so it would be nice and white. Just be sure not to wipe on the glossy areas!
TIP: I used glossy cardstock so the ink will blend better. The ink doesn't dry right away on glossy cardstock; that's how I could get the color nice and smooth. I also used a swirling motion with the sponge rather than a dabbing motion.
The cardbase is Pacific Point with a slit punched into the fold with the retired horizontal slot punch. A piece of white organdy ribbon finishes the card.
Happy stamping!

Polished stone with a twist

If you are a regular visitor, you know that I am a demo challenge hostess on SCS. I am the lucky person who gets to invite demonstrators to be the WICKED stamper each month. I also get to be the first one to see their awesome projects and samples!
Last month was a busy one for me, so I was a little late trying the February challenges. This card combines the February color combo (Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, and Kiwi Kiss) with the technique which is polished stone. Kandicejo posted a beautiful card combining emboss resist with polished stone, and that inspired my focal image. I also used JanTInk's punchy plates technique and the sketch is based on WSC70 although I changed it a little.
If you need a refresher on polished stone as I did, there is an excellent tutorial here.
I started with a square of glossy white cardstock, stamped the grass image in Chocolate Chip craft ink and embossed with clear EP. Then I just followed the polished stone tutorial. I let it dry overnight and then wiped the embossed image with a paper towel to remove the excess ink.
I cut it down to 2 3/4" X 3 1/2". I cut it vertically at 1 1/8" and attached the 2 pieces to a Chocolate chip textured mat (3 1/4" X 3 3/4"). The plate is made with the key tag punch and the 1 1/4" circle punch. (Jan has an excellent tutorial for this on her blog.)
Supplies (all SU): Stamps: Inspired by Nature, A Beautiful Thing; Paper: glossy white, Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss, Chocolate Chip textured, Urban Oasis DSP; Ink: Chocolate Chip craft, reinkers (gold, Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss); Accessories: key tag punch, 1 1/4" circle punch, clear EP, silver brads, Baja Breeze striped grosgrain ribbon
