Hinge card

This is a really fun card that was in the last Stampin' Success magazine (demonstrators get it from Stampin' Up). I wanted to make a card with my new Oval All set and scallop oval punch from the upcoming Occasions Mini, and I decided on this after watching this video from Dawn Griffith.
The base is 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" Whisper White. For the bottom piece, I started with 3 1/2" X 4 1/4" Certainly Celery. I ran the Whimsy jumbo wheel over it with Certainly Celery ink and then used the eyelet border punch along the top.
This piece is adhered to the bottom of the Whisper White base, but don't run the adhesive all the way to the top. You need to leave room for the top piece to slide underneath it.

The top piece is 2 3/4" X 4 1/4" Soft Sky. I lined it up with the top of the Whisper White base and slid the bottom of it under the scalloped edge of the Certainly Celery piece. I punched a hole through all 3 layers and put in a Whisper White 5/16" brad. That's what makes the hinge.

Here it is opened so you can see the inside. You put your message on the white base at the top. The focal image is the butterfly from Garden Whimsy. I inked the entire stamp with Soft Sky then sponged Pacific Point onto the edges with a sponge dauber. I sponged Certainly Celery around the edges of the cardstock then matted it with Pacific Point and added some Dazzling Diamonds. The sentiment is stamped with Pacific Point on Soft Sky then punched with the large oval punch. The mat is the same stamp embossed in white and then punched with the new scallop oval punch.
Happy stamping!

Happy Australia Day!

I hope the bottom card isn't too scary for you; it scares me a little, LOL! Monday's demonstratable card challenge was a doozy. Cav, the hostess of that challenge, is Australian, and Australia Day is right around the corner (1/26 I think but not totally sure) so Cav had us use Australia's colors. We could only use Glorious Green, Yoyo Yellow, Whisper White and Very Vanilla. We had to CASE one of our own cards. We had to have an animal or insect somewhere on the card, and it had to be a birthday card. Wow!
The card at the top of the photo is the one I chose to CASE. I added a butterfly from Garden Whimsy as my insect. I'm pretty sure this was the first time I had cut any Glorious Green cardstock; I still had 3 full pieces in there from my first variety pack of cardstock. I think I bought that in about 2002, LOL! The ribbon is whisper white taffeta. I tried sponging it with ink and then ended up using chalk. I think the chalk worked pretty well!
Supplies (all SU): Stamps: Inspired by Nature, Garden Whimsy, Fundamental Phrases; Paper: Whisper White, Glorious Green, Yoyo Yellow; Ink: Glorious Green, Yoyo Yellow; Accessories: ticket corner punch, word window punch, double rectangle punch, pastels, sponge dauber, Whisper White taffeta ribbon
Happy stamping!

A color challenge card

I made this card for Julie's color challenge last weekend. The color combo is Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy and Garden Green. I have to say that I am loving Baja Breeze, and for some reason I have been using Garden Green more recently. So this combo was right up my alley.
In Julie's post, she mentioned blue flowers, and that made me think of Garden Whimsy. I LOVE this set, but for some reason, I never seem to use it. I inked the tulip stamp with Baja Breeze and Garden Green then used a sponge dauber to add NQN around the edges of the flower. That was a tip I read about from Convention. The sponge dauber gives good control, and you can really load it up with ink too. I used the Coluzzle to cut out the image and mat and then used the corner rounder punch to scallop the edge of the mat. I used my ink spot and sponge dauber to color the ribbon in NQN; it looks darker in the picture than it does IRL. For the card base, I used a scrap of cardstock to make a nice edge when I was stamping the random ladybugs. Then I tied the ribbon along that line and stamped the sentiment in Garden Green.
Supplies (all SU): Stamps: Garden Whimsy, Refuge and Strength; Paper: Whisper White, Garden Green, Baja Breeze; Ink: Baja Breeze, Garden Green, Not Quite Navy; Accessories: Coluzzle, corner rounder punch, Very Vanilla taffeta ribbon, sponge dauber
