Jessie's birthday card

I made this card for my friend and co-worker Jessie for her birthday.  I used two Creative Crew challenges as inspiration.  One of this month's challenges is to use one of the retiring in colors.  I chose my favorite, Wisteria Wonder.  The other challenge is to use paper piercing in a new way.  I pierced at the corners and used the holes to make the stitches with Wisteria Wonder bakers twine.
I also tried a new technique for me: chalkboard.  I started with a piece of black cardstock.  I used my embossing buddy to give it a chalky look.  Then I stamped all of my images (all from Best of Birthdays) in white craft ink so they would look like they were drawn with chalk.

Chalkboard spinner card

When I saw this stamp in the Take a Spin set, it reminded me of things you would say to a student which led me to the chalkboard technique. For this technique, you stamp on dark cardstock with white craft ink and then color over the ink with pastels/chalk. I tried to choose colors you would really see for chalk and came up with Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Rose Red and Perfect Plum. I can't believe I used so many colors on one card!

Chalkboard technique

Today's card features a fun technique called chalkboard.  For this technique, you start with very dark cardstock (black or I've used Night of Navy).  Stamp your image with whisper white craft ink and then dab chalk onto the image, covering it completely.  You can gently wipe away excess and use your chalk eraser to clean up any residue.  TIP: A pencil eraser also works if you're not able to find your chalk eraser!
My color combo is Rose Red, Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery.  This is a flashback to Cutie Pie DSP, which was one of my favorites a few years ago.
This is a clean and simple card for sure, but I'm really happy with it!
Note: I thought I had this scheduled to post this morning, but it didn't.  Sorry for the delay!
Supplies (all SU): Stamps: Circle Circus, Teeny Tiny Wishes; Paper: Bashful Blue, Night of Navy; Ink: Whisper White craft, Night of Navy; Accessories: Certainly Celery satin ribbon, chalks, circle punches (1", 1 1/4", 1 3/4", scallop)

Look at the card I got!

Remember those swap cards I made? Now I'm going to start showing you some of the cards I got back! I can honestly say that every card I got was very high quality; Crystal does a great job of attracting great swappers.
Today's card is by Sue Begger. I love all of the Sizzix dies that she used; I'm so jealous of the folks who have one. I especially love the Top Note die. I also like the chalkboard technique combined with the Upsy Daisy stamp set, and the colors she used are so pretty!
I am leaving on Sunday for Florida to train a class for work. I will be gone for 3 weeks, and I get to come home for a weekend after 2 weeks. That means I won't be doing much stamping, but I will keep my regular posting schedule. I have a few things I've made but haven't shown you yet, and I have more swap cards too. I'll still be checking my e-mail too.
Happy stamping!
