Paper casting

This week's workshop wow is paper casting. Stick with me; it's so much easier than you think!
Before I get to the technique, let me say that I am so happy with how this card turned out!
I created the paper flower first then decided on my color combo. I really wanted to use the Daffodil Delight ribbon, so that was the starting point. Then I found the Melon Mambo DSP that was already cut to the right size! You might not be able to tell that I stamped the same flower image onto the DSP in all 3 colors. I decided that a tag would be the best background for the flower, and I also decided to give it some texture by using a bone folder and the cutter kit to rough it up as well as split off part of the bottom edge. I used a sponge dauber to add the color to the flower. I lightly sprayed the flower with gold smooch spritz and the tag with log cabin.

Now let's talk about the paper casting. The instructions came from here. Start with 5 sheets of toilet paper. Stack them on top of each other and wet them; I just wet it under the faucet. Get a little of the excess water out (if necessary) then lay it on top of your rubber image. Press it gently with your fingers to make sure it gets into all of the depressed areas. Let it sit until it becomes pretty solid. Then you can remove it from the stamp to dry completely. It was at least a couple of hours before I took mine off the stamp, then I let it dry overnight. Mine discolored slightly from the rubber, but you can't tell on the finished flower.

Double challenge card

I was able to complete 2 challenges with this card. The first challenge was one of Dawn's WICKED challenges to use a wheel. (You can barely see the wheel image across my card base!) The second challenge was Patty's workshop wow challenge to create a tone on tone card, stamping onto colored cardstock instead of a neutral. For my card, I chose to use Certainly Celery and Old Olive. I had several inspirations for parts of this card. First of all, my friend Susie Nelson used Baroque Motifs for this same challenge, and that reminded me that I hadn't used it for a while. Second, one of my blogging sisters, Marilyn, used the ribbon knot on the corner of one of her cards. And third, I saw the 2 ovals layered together on Stampin' Connection. At least adding the felt flower and rhinestone brad was my own idea!

Emerging Color

For the emerging color technique, you start with a base that has a pattern on it. You can create that by stamping multiple images in multiple colors, or you can do it the easy way and use DSP. In this case, I'm using Razzleberry Lemonade DSP. Next you take a bold image, stamp it on your base with VersaMark, and emboss it with clear EP. Here I've used the Medallion background stamp. Finally you sponge or brayer a dark color over the entire piece of cardstock or DSP. The clear embossing acts as a resist to the ink, allowing the pattern to show through in that area. Originally, I used Melon Mambo ink, but it wasn't dark enough so I went over it again with Rich Razzleberry. After the ink dries a bit, lightly wipe the embossed image with a paper towel to remove any excess ink.
I adhered it to a Melon Mambo card base and added some Crushed Curry ribbon. I used the soon-retiring horizontal slot punch to make a slot for my ribbon to go through.

CAS grad card

Here's a clean and simple grad card I made this weekend. I was inspired by a card I saw on a blog, but then I couldn't find it again! The card base is Pretty in Pink spritzed with Pink Pirouette. The main piece has flowers from Fifth Avenue Floral stamped in Pink Pirouette, Pretty in Pink and Melon Mambo.

Father's Day Card

Here's the Father's Day card I made for my FIL. The DSP is a technique called bargello where you vary the pattern of the stripes. I pulled the colors from the Travel Journal DSP.

Here you can see how I lined up the pattern on the paper then I trimmed the ends.

Trifold card

This week's workshop wow challenge was Cami's trifold card. This was a fun and easy card! The card is 4 X 11, scored at 3 1/2 and 7.
TIP: Score just short of 3 1/2 to make the card lay flat better.
Next time, I may make this card taller. You could use up to a 5 1/2" wide piece of cardstock for a 4 X 5 1/2 finished card size.

Here you can see that you punch with the slit punch on the 4" section of card which is the back of the card.
TIP: Fold the card closed before punching so you can line the slit up perfectly!
Then punch a small hole in the slit to thread the ribbon through.


To add the wow factor to my card, I embossed all of my images in black and colored them with markers. I used the scallop oval punch to punch the hole in the middle section; this becomes the front of the card when closed. I stamped the bee onto a piece of white cardstock and punched it with the wide oval so it would fit into the scalloped oval window.

More new colors

Here's the second card I made with my new stuff. This is a CASE of a card I made back when I first got Awash with Flowers. The cardbase is Daffodil Delight, and the mat is Early Espresso. All of the outlines are stamped in Early Espresso, and I drew over the stems with Wild Wasabi. The big flower is Daffodil Delight with a Cajun Craze center. The tulip (?) is Marina Mist. The small flowers are Cherry Cobbler, and the triple flowers are Pink Pirouette. The edges of the focal image are sponged with Early Espresso and Cajun Craze.

New stamps and new colors!

Happy Monday, everyone! Sorry I didn't post last week. Life was so busy that I didn't have the chance to stamp at all. But I have 3 great projects all ready to go this week, so let's get to it!
One thing I did make time for last week was the box of preorder stuff I got from SU. Not only did it have some pretty new colors, stamps and ribbon, it also had MY NEW CATALOG! I have been drooling ever since. There is some fabulous stuff in there, let me tell you!
This card is the first I made with my new stuff. The hydrangea and sentiment are from a Level 1 hostess set called Because I Care. I colored the hydrangea with Marina Mist and Wild Wasabi markers. I tore off one corner and sponged the whole thing with Crumb Cake (the color formerly known as Kraft). The cardbase is Crumb Cake with Medallion BG stamped in Crumb Cake. The sentiment was stamped in Wild Wasabi and Crumb Cake, punched with the wide oval punch then sponged with Crumb Cake. There's a Wild Wasabi scalloped circle behind it. Isn't that cute? I've seen that in several places lately, and I love the way it looks! The finishing touch is Marina Mist 1/8" taffeta ribbon.

WICKED color challenge

Here's another card I made for this month's WICKED challenges. The challenge was to use Dusty Durango, and Dawn suggested a color combo of Dusty Durango, Soft Suede and So Saffron.
I used a piece of So Saffron cardstock for my focal image. First, I created a sun by sponging Crushed Curry (using a Post-It with a circle punched out as a stencil) and then sponging Dusty Durango around it. I also sponged Crushed Curry onto the edges of the cardstock. I stamped the coneflowers in Dusty Durango and the grass in Soft Suede. Then I sprayed some Log Cabin Smooch Spritz onto it. If I could do it over, I would use the gold instead because the brown looks like a swarm of bugs to me, LOL.
The cardbase is Dusty Durango stamped with Sanded in Dusty Durango, sprayed with gold Smooch Spritz, and the sentiment is from Boho Backgrounds stamped in Soft Suede.

Frosted Window

This week's workshop wow challenge is the frosted window technique. It uses a deeply colored image topped by a lighter image on vellum. For the cardbase, I used Sahara Sand and topped it with a Garden Green piece that I embossed using Rhonda's cuttlebug. Thanks Rhonda!
