ARRRR!

I just got the new Witches Brew washi tape, and it ROCKS!  This may be one of my favorite cards ever.  It's just a white notecard with the washi tape placed on the diagonal over and over with the ARRRR! sentiment from Beware Pirates.  You could use the same design but have a totally different look by using a different washi tape and sentiment.

Pink pirate card

One of my co-workers likes pirates too, so I made her a sparkly pink pirate card for her birthday.  I used SCS sketch challenge 366.  The DSP is a retired Valentine paper from a year or two ago.  I stamped the skull and crossbones in Pretty in Pink craft ink and embossed it with Irridescent Ice EP.  The bow is a forkbow but made using a potato masher instead.  I'll post a new tutorial for that next week.

Daniel's birthday card

One of this month's Creative Crew challenges is to use Timeless Portrait DSP or its colors: Very Vanilla, River Rock, Island Indigo, Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black.  I don't have the DSP, but I thought the colors would be perfect for a birthday card for Daniel.  He will be 22 tomorrow.  Wow, that's hard to believe!  Obviously, my card doesn't look anything like the DSP, but I really like it!
I used Extreme Elements and all of the colors to create my own background.  I used the new pewter embossing powder from the Holiday Mini for the pirate.  I thought about adding some ribbon but decided that I liked it just the way it is!

One more pirate

This card was inspired by a VSN challenge although I didn't get it made in time to submit it.  The challenge was to make a tough but girly card.  I embossed the pirate image in black and sprinkled on Dazzling Diamonds while it was still warm.  The card base is shimmery white with a back layer of Concord Crush.  The front of the card has a layer of Basic Black topped with Bride DSP sponged with Concord Crush.  I added Basic Black satin ribbon and the decorative label punch as well.

Embossed pirate

The theme of VSN was pirates.  I didn't make this card for VSN, but VSN did get me thinking about my much-loved, seldom-used Beware Pirates stamp set.
Sorry for the bad photo; I couldn't get the lighting right for you to see the embossing.  The image is embossed with a mixture of silver and gold embossing powder!  (I tried black and Irridescent Ice EP together too.  Yuck!)
The image is stamped on black, matted on gold.  The card base is Whisper White with a back mat of black.  The DSP is long-retired and sprayed with gold Smooch Spritz.

Here's my masculine card using the sketch from Monday.  I just love it!  I don't use Beware Pirates nearly as often as I should.  I also used another piece of Jolly Holiday DSP, which is one of my goals for the SU catalog year.  Whoohoo!
I used a Basic Black marker to color the pearls before I added them to the card, and I heat set the color.
Supplies: Stamps: Beware Pirates; Paper: Very Vanilla, Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black, Jolly Holiday DSP; Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black marker, black StazOn; Accessories: pearls

Groovy pirates

A while back, I saw an awesome background on a card on Jackie Topa's blog.  She embossed the Woodgrain background in white and then painted in lines of color with ink and an aquapainter.  She popped one of the extreme images on top (guitar, I think).  For some reason, I immediately thought it would work with Beware Pirates.  I love this set, and I had to have it.  But I don't use it too much because I'm never quite sure what to do with it.
For this card, I stamped the image onto glossy white cardstock using StazOn Black ink.  Then I stamped it onto a post-it note and cut it out for a mask.  Next, I stamped the woodgrain stamp with VersaMark, removed the mask, and embossed it with white EP.  For the colors, I used Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry.  Next time, I might color in the image with all one color.

2010 planner cover

A few years ago, Stampin' Up offered demonstrator planners. They were so nice! SU discontinued them, but the planner itself is reusable. The Franklin Covey inserts fit perfectly; I got mine at Target. Of course, I needed a new cover for it. The cover insert also slides out so it can be replaced. I made one in 2008, but last year I had a Hoops and Yoyo planner (with sound!). Hallmark didn't offer a new H&Y planner this year, so I decided to go back to my old one.
I've finally gotten around to making a 2010 cover for my planner. This year's color combo is Pale Plum, Rich Razzleberry and Basic Gray with splashes of silver EP. The fleur de lis in the corners are embossed with silver EP but overheated to look worn. (It was an accident, but I like the look!)
Supplies (all SU): Stamps: Beware Pirates, Extreme Elements, Vintage Labels; Paper: Pale Plum, Basic Gray, Rich Razzleberry; Ink: VersaMark, Basic Gray, Pale Plum, Rich Razzleberry; Accessories: Basic Gray marker, wide oval punch, corner rounder punch, silver EP, heat gun

Card box

This project is a box to hold cards or other goodies. The pattern was created by my fellow SU demo, Susie Nelson. She got the dimensions and pattern from a box of cards from a certain humongous card retailer that shall remain nameless. :) Here's the inside of the box. For the front, I used my last little scrap of retired skull and crossbones DSP. I knew it would be perfect with the Beware Pirates stamp set. Of course, using the DSP meant I had to use my last piece of Kiwi Kiss textured cardstock. I miss that DSP and Kiwi Kiss too!

A pirate's card for me

For this week's workshop wow challenge, I decided to do a sketch challenge. This sketch is based on the card on page 13 of the catalog. I used the new Night and Day DSP from the Holiday Mini; isn't it gorgeous? The stamped image is from my favorite new set, Beware Pirates. It's hard to tell in the photo, but the cardbase and stamped image are on Shimmery White cardstock.

Beware Pirates!

Last weekend, SCS had Virtual Stamp Night. During VSN, they present a challenge every hour. This month, the theme was food. I made this card for a challenge where you had to follow a recipe. The recipe I chose was for a Blue Bikini martini. The colors were Tempting Turquoise, Brilliant Blue and Cameo Coral. The accessories I chose (from a list) were acetate and brads. The garnish was rhinestones (in my brads).
I started by cutting a piece of window sheet and a piece of Tempting Turquoise cardstock down to the size of my stamp block. I stamped the ship onto the window sheet with White StazOn. To make my water scene, I punched a 3/4" circle into a Post-It and used that to sponge Cameo Coral craft ink for the sun. Then I heatset that to get the true ink color. Next I sponged Brilliant Blue ink all along the bottom and just around the other edges. I used Ice Circle rhinestone brads to attach the window sheet to the backdrop. The card base is Cameo Coral with Sanded stamped in Cameo Coral ink. I stamped the sentiment in turquoise ink and punched it out with the modern label punch. I backed that up with a designer label in Brilliant Blue.
