Inlaid embossing

My friend Rhonda lent me her Cuttlebug and Big Shot dies and folders, so I have been playing a little. This technique is called inlaid embossing. It uses an embossing folder, some cardstock and punched or cut-out pieces. The Square Lattice embossing folder works especially well for this technique. You simply punch or cut out some images, adhere them to another piece of cardstock, and run them through the Big Shot in the embossing folder. It looks like an inlaid design!
My color combo is Pacific Point, Wild Wasabi, Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight. I used a few different circle punches for my shapes. The finishing touches on my card are: scallop border, Pacific Point ribbon and Daffodil Delight ink spritzed onto the card base.

Chalkboard spinner card

When I saw this stamp in the Take a Spin set, it reminded me of things you would say to a student which led me to the chalkboard technique. For this technique, you stamp on dark cardstock with white craft ink and then color over the ink with pastels/chalk. I tried to choose colors you would really see for chalk and came up with Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Rose Red and Perfect Plum. I can't believe I used so many colors on one card!

Aebelskiver

You may be wondering: what is aebleskiver? Aebelskiver are Danish pancake balls. They are made in a special pan with round indentations in it . I was lucky enough to receive an aebelskiver pan as a gift! (They carry them at Target here in Duluth. The pan label calls them pancake poppers.) Along with the pan, I received 2 types of pancake mix (blueberry multigrain and chocolate raspberry) with some real maple syrup. I made my first batch of blueberry on Sunday, and they were a big hit!
You melt a little butter in the pan and add the batter. Let it brown and then use skewers to flip it over to brown on the other side.

Here's the finished product. Next time, I'm going to try chocolate raspberry with cheesecake filling. Yum!

This beautiful card I got from Rhonda uses 3 of my favorite things: shimmery white cardstock, Rich Razzleberry and Basic Gray taffeta ribbon. I *need* to get some of those pearls!

Best Shower Gift Idea Ever!

My wonderful friends at Eastridge Community Church here in Duluth had a bridal shower for me last Saturday. My friends Pauline and Rhonda not only threw the shower, they also gave me a whole treasure trove of thank you notes! They laid them out on a table and had each guest pick a card and address the envelope to themselves. All I have to do is fill them in and mail them plus I have leftovers to send for other gifts as well! Best shower gift idea ever! A few cards from the assortment are pictured above.

Take a Spin!

Hi all! Sorry for my erratic posting! I'm having trouble getting my groove back after the holidays. I've also been so busy commenting on the Creative Crew gallery--184 projects as of today, and I've commented on all of them! Whew!
Here's my third card for the January Creative Crew challenges. This challenge was to showcase products from the new Occasions Mini. I just LOVE this new Take a Spin stamp set, and SU also sells the spinner hands! Markers made coloring this image a snap. I got the color combo from the Color Coach: Marina Mist, Wild Wasabi and Early Espresso.
This is also my twist on the Diva Coffee Break Designs sketch challenge # 209.

Creative Crew valentine

This card has no stamping on it! To create this valentine, I used the Love Impressions rub-ons from the Occasions Mini. I love, love, love it on the ribbon!
For this card, I used a 3 3/4 X 5 piece of Bashful Blue attached to a 5 1/4 X 8 Whisper White cardbase. The cardbase is adhered to a 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 piece of Basic Gray. I have been doing this a lot lately as it's a great way to use a white or vanilla card but still have enough weight to the card plus it still gives that border of color around the edge.

Here is one of my projects. One of the challenges is to use hearts, and one is to use Love Letters DSP or its colors (Riding Hood Red, Very Vanilla, Basic Black). I used the Always stamp set which I have neglected lately. I embossed the heart with black EP and colored in the flowers with Riding Hood Red. I added some faux dry embossing to the top half of my card by punching out hearts and adhering them to the card base.
